VARIABLE TRANSFORMERS

The variable transformer is one of the most versatile electrical control devices ever invented, providing essentially stepless and undistorted variation of AC voltage and of dependent parameters, such as current, heat, motor speed, light intensity, etc.

Claude Lyons Limited are proud to have introduced the variable transformer to the UK in 1933 under the trade name 'Variac'. Latterly we manufacture them under our registered trade marks 'Regavolt' and 'Varatran'.

The larger Regavolt® series feature gold-plated contact tracks for extended lifetime and protection against starting surges and are available in many models including ganged types for series and three-phase application. The lower power Varatran® types feature encapsulated windings.

The table below lists a wide selection of standard models. Those listed in bold are manufactured for stock and normally available for prompt delivery via our online product catalogue.

In addition other models and many optional features are available to special order, particularly against specific quantity requirements.
